Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Wiki

Not to be confused with Technology 2.

For all Tech Items, check Tech (disambiguation)

Technology is a passive item.

Effects[]

  • Replaces tears with a laser beam with unlimited range and piercing. The laser is fired from Isaac's left eye.

Notes[]

  • Laser rate of fire is determined by the tears stat. This differentiates the item from Technology 2 which fires a continuous beam, and Tech.5 which has a random fire rate.
  • (in Repentance) Laser size scales with tear size.
    • (in Repentance) The sound emitted by the laser will also change depending on its size. This is purely aesthetic.
  • (in Repentance) Lasers are affected by momentum, allowing them to be shot diagonally if fired while Isaac is moving.
  • (in Repentance) When directly adjacent to a wall or obstacle and firing in the wrong direction the obstacle may block the laser, preventing it from damaging enemies. This can happen on all sides of a given room with the exception of the bottom wall.

Synergies[]

  • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Haemolacria: Fires arcing Haemolacria tears that release Technology lasers in all directions upon impact.
  • (in Rebirth) Brimstone: Overrides Technology.
    • (except in Rebirth) The Technology laser coils around the Brimstone beam, granting a 1.5x damage multiplier, which can stack with other multipliers such as Magic Mushroom's 1.5x damage multiplier.
      • (in Repentance) Technology's damage multiplier will be overridden if Isaac has the powered up version (from picking up Brimstone twice or using Sulfur with Brimstone).
  • (except in Rebirth) Epic Fetus: Fires lasers in all directions upon impact of a missile.
  • (in Repentance) Eye of the Occult: The laser becomes dark purple and automatically fires at a controllable crosshair. The crosshair behaves nearly identically to the one created by Marked (including in its synergies and interactions with other items) with the exception that lasers often arch towards the crosshair rather than traveling towards it directly and any other projectiles affected by Eye of the Occult that are not lasers (such as from Eye of Greed or Fate's Reward) will chase the crosshair and hover above it for the remainder of their range.
    • Technology + Tech.5/Technology 2: Tech.5 and Technology 2 lasers are also affected by the crosshair but cannot create the crosshair on their own.
  • Fire Mind: Laser lights enemies on fire but loses the ability to explode enemies.
  • The Inner Eye / Mutant Spider: Isaac shoots multiple lasers with a decreased rate of fire.
  • (in Repentance) Lachryphagy: Isaac shoots a short-range laser that will form a Lachryphagy tear, which has piercing.
  • The Ludovico Technique: The laser becomes a large ring that is controllable and looks like a (except in Rebirth) Tech X shot. Enemies inside the ring without touching it are not hurt. The tears stat is ignored and the damage is dealt very rapidly at a rate equivalent to a 1 tear delay. (except in Repentance) Shot speed is ignored.
  • (in Repentance) Marked: Isaac can fire lasers at the crosshair.
  • Mom's Eye: Fires a laser from the back of Isaac's head as well as the front.
  • (in Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) Monstro's Lung: Several additional lasers fire in random directions. (One beam will always fire straight forward as normal.)
    • (in Repentance) Fires a barrage of small lasers.
  • (in Repentance) Pop!: Laser loses its unlimited range, but spawns eyeball tears at the end of the laser.
  • (in Rebirth) Proptosis: Doubles damage with no damage-decreasing effect on the laser.
    • (in Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) Doubles the damage stat, the beams deal 2x damage at point blank range but it rapidly decreases with distance, down to 0.1 from about 8 tiles away.
    • (in Repentance) The beams do 6x damage at point blank range but decreases to 0.1 damage at about 8 tiles away.
  • (in Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) Tech X: Both fire at the same time.
    • (in Repentance) Fires a Brimstone ring coiled by a laser. Hitbox is bigger with no damage increase.
  • (except in Rebirth) Technology: Adds an additional laser for every extra copy of the item up to a maximum of 16, with no downgrade to damage or tears.
  • (except in Repentance) Technology 2: Equips two lasers that can be fired at the same time. As Technology is always fired from the right eye, it is not affected by the halved normal attack rate.
    • (in Repentance) Technology is affected by the fire rate multiplier. Holding (in Repentance) Stapler, (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Lead Pencil or playing as Cain will allow Isaac to angle shots with momentum again.
  • Tiny Planet: Laser circles around Isaac and then continues its path forward in a straight line. The laser is also spectral.
    • (except in Rebirth) Tiny Planet + A Lump of Coal: The extra distance covered by the laser more than doubles damage right in front of Isaac, and it increases as normal further away.
  • Tough Love / (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Apple!: The lasers can gain the damage multiplier from each of the items, although there is no visual difference.

Interactions[]

  • (in Rebirth) 20/20: Overridden by Technology.
    • (except in Rebirth) Shoot 2 lasers.
  • (except in Repentance) Anti-Gravity: Tears up, but no Anti-Gravity effect.
    • (in Repentance) Create laser balls that fire technology lasers when released.
  • (in Rebirth) Azazel: Overrides Azazel's Brimstone.
    • (except in Rebirth) Technology laser wraps around the Brimstone beam, dealing extra damage, but not increasing Brimstone range.
  • Blood Clot / Chemical Peel / (in Repentance) The Peeper: 50% chance to apply the flat damage up/damage increase with each shot.
  • (except in Repentance) Chocolate Milk: Lasers can't be charged, but reduces Isaac's tear delay by 20%.
    • (in Repentance) The laser can be charged, increasing its size and damage.
  • (in Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) Continuum: Overridden by Technology.
    • (in Repentance) Technology lasers wrap around the screen with the Continuum effect with momentum retained.
  • (except in Repentance) Cursed Eye: Overridden by Technology.
    • (in Repentance) Charges a barrage of 5 lasers.
  • (except in Repentance) Cricket's Body: Tear delay down as expected, but no benefit from the splash effect.
    • (in Repentance) Releases a 4-way spread of tears whenever the laser hits a wall or an enemy.
  • (except in Rebirth) Dead Eye: Prior to picking up Technology, the damage multiplier is preserved to where its at, and missing shots will not remove it. Saving and quitting the game will remove the multiplier. Picking Dead Eye after Technology has no effect.
  • Death's Touch: Overridden by Technology, but still grants damage.
  • (in Rebirth and Repentance) Dr. Fetus: Overrides Technology.
    • (in Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) Fires lasers in addition to bombs.
  • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Euthanasia: The lasers can gain the damage multiplier from Euthanasia although there is no visual difference. (except in Repentance) Euthanasia loses its instant kill ability, however.
  • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Eye of Belial: Overridden by Technology.
  • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Flat Stone: Overridden by Technology.
  • Flat WormFlat Worm / Pulse WormPulse Worm: No effect.
  • Godhead: Homing laser, but the halo is lost.
  • (in Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) Head of the Keeper: Overridden by Technology.
    • (in Repentance) The laser is recolored to a bright yellow-orange and keeps the chance to drop coins when hitting enemies.
  • (in Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) Holy Light: Holy Light shots will not activate.
    • (in Repentance) Holy Light shots have a chance to activate on hit as expected.
  • Hook WormHook Worm: Laser follows a square wave, which increases its hitbox.
  • Ipecac: Laser doesn't gain Ipecac's flat damage bonus or fire rate decrease, poisons targets.
    • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Gives a flat +4 damage instead of +40, poisons targets. Fire rate is not decreased.
    • (in Repentance) Gives a flat +2 damage instead of +40, laser poisons and explodes on contact, dealing 10 + twice of Isaac's damage. Fire rate decrease applies.
      • (in Repentance) Mom's Knife: Not reccomended. Isaac will blow himself up consistently whenever he shoots the knife.
  • Isaac's Tears: Fires normal tears.
  • (in Afterbirth †) Jacob's Ladder: Overridden by Technology.
    • (in Repentance) The laser turns light blue and fires electricity normally.
  • (in Rebirth) A Lump of Coal: No effect.
    • (except in Rebirth) Damage increases the further away the enemy is, on a multiplier that is roughly +20% per tile of distance. This allows for a huge damage increase from longer distances.
  • (in Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) Marked: Overridden by Technology, stat bonuses still apply.
  • (in Rebirth) Mom's Knife: Overrides Technology.
    • (in Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) Both fire normally.
      • When playing as Lilith, Mom's Knife overrides Technology.
    • (in Repentance) The tip of Mom's Knife connects to isaac's body with a laser when launched. This effect is similar to that of Technology Zero
    • (except in Repentance) Mom's Knife + The Ludovico Technique: The laser ring becomes centered on Isaac and cannot be controlled, and the knife can not be fired. This makes some rooms impossible to do without a familiar.
  • (in Rebirth) My Reflection: Overridden by Technology.
    • (in Afterbirth and Afterbirth †) Makes the beam curve the opposite direction while Isaac is moving sideways.
    • (in Repentance) The laser makes a thin loop in front of Isaac, and fires the normal laser backwards.
      • (in Repentance) Pop!: The laser ends halfway through the loop. Spawns Eyeball tears like normal.
  • (in Rebirth) Mysterious Liquid: Overridden by Technology.
    • (except in Rebirth) The laser spawns pools of liquid always when it hits obstacles and occasionally on enemies.
  • (in Repentance) Neptunus: Overridden by Technology.
  • Number One: Expected tears up and the laser's color turns yellow.
  • (in Afterbirth †) Ouroboros WormOuroboros Worm: No effect on laser.
    • (in Repentance) Works as intended.
  • (except in Rebirth) Pupula Duplex: Laser becomes spectral.
    • (in Repentance) Laser beams are thicker in terms of width.
  • Soy Milk: Expected high damage down and very high tears up. (except in Repentance) Because Technology has no knockback like standard tears, this will generally be a good DPS increase.

  • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) Compound Fracture: Overriden by Technology.

In-game Footage[]

Audio[]

One of the sounds lasers can make.

One of the sounds lasers can make when Isaac's tear size is small (or when damage is below 1.0). Lasers sound like small bolts of electricity.

One of the sounds lasers can make when Isaac's tear size is large (or when damage is 11.60 or more). Lasers sound deeper and bassier.

One of the sounds lasers can make when synergizing with Monstro's Lung.

Unlockable Achievements[]

Trivia[]

  • This item is used in Computer Savvy (challenge #16).
  • (in Repentance) Technology gains a unique, animated costume when it inherits a form of charged attack; for example, as a result of its synergies with items such as Chocolate Milk or Cursed Eye. (See 'Gallery.')
    • This does not work with items that grant a charged attack but also override Technology's costume, e.g. Monstro's Lung.
    • This is one of the few, rare examples of a synergy granting a unique costume - another one being the costume granted by holding multiple copies of Brimstone in Repentance.

Bugs[]

Bug Bug! (in Repentance) Having Technology, Technology 2 and Mom's Eye makes the back laser fire extremely fast.
