For all Tech items, check Tech (disambiguation)
Tech X is a passive item added in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth.
Effects
- Isaac's tears are replaced with ring-shaped lasers.
- Shots can be charged to increase the size of the rings.
- Only the outer circumference of the rings will deal damage.
- Rings pass through obstacles and enemies.
- Rings have infinite range and will travel until they hit a wall.
- Damage dealt is based on the amount charged, starting at 25% Isaac's damage and scaling to 100% at maximum charge.
Notes
- The rings are similar in appearance to the combination of The Ludovico Technique and Technology.
- The laser rings will linger for a brief moment upon touching a wall, allowing more damage to be dealt to enemies closer to walls.
- The "R U A WIZARD?" pill effect does not work with Tech X.
- Charging only increases size, not damage. It is useful for hard-to-hit enemies or hitting a wide area at once, but spamming small, uncharged shots will lead to much higher damage output.
- With the charge bars option enabled, the rings can be released immediately as the charge bar appears for easier gauging of maximum damage output.
- The maximum ring size is slightly smaller in Repentance.
Synergies
- 20/20: Fires two Tech X rings instead of one.
- Brimstone: Fires a brimstone circle instead of a tech circle.
- Azazel: Picking up Brimstone will still override Tech X. When you pick up Tech X as Azazel with his inherited Brimstone, Tech X does nothing at all.
- As Azazel, Brimstone no longer overrides Tech X, instead Tech X overrides Azazel's Brimstone. This works quite well with Azazel's good initial damage stat and also negates his initial range penalty.
- Overrides Tainted Azazel's Brimstone.
- Brimstone + Technology: The damage boost from Brimstone+Technology is lost, but the laser fires while charging the brimstone ring.
- Azazel: Picking up Brimstone will still override Tech X. When you pick up Tech X as Azazel with his inherited Brimstone, Tech X does nothing at all.
- Dr. Fetus: Overrides the charging effect, but shoots a laser ring with a bomb in the middle.
- Epic Fetus: Each missile shoots 10 laser beams like from Technology in each direction, similar to Tammy's Head.
- Haemolacria: Haemolacria tears will burst into 3-5 Tech X rings on impact.
- Mucormycosis: Hitting enemies has a chance to stick a spore to them.
- Mom's Knife: Simultaneously fires the knife and laser ring(s).
- : Overrides Tech X.
- Monstro's Lung: Extra laser rings with different sizes depending on how long Isaac charges it are fired, will increase charge time.
- Rubber Cement: The rings bounce off walls and have infinite range
- Spoon Bender: While the rings won't home in on enemies, they will bend inwards to hit enemies within each ring, resulting in a substantial damage area increase.
- Strange Attractor: Magnetic effect pulls pickups and objects to the edge of the ring, increasing accuracy.
- Tech.5: Equips both laser systems.
- Technology: Equips both laser systems.
- : Overridden by Tech X.
- Technology 2: Equips both laser systems.
- Wiggle Worm: Replaces the outer laser ring with a star-shaped oval, slightly increasing its area of effect.
- Explosivo: Tech X rings can sometimes create an explosivo tear that sticks to enemies on hit.
Interactions
- Anti-Gravity: Only tear delay down applies.
- Apple!: Only tears up applies, without a chance of high-damage rings.
- Azazel: Azazel's brimstone overrides Tech X.
- Tech X overrides Azazel's brimstone.
- Brain Worm: No effect.
- Chocolate Milk: Doesn't increase damage, but reduces Isaac's tear delay by 20%.
- Continuum + Incubus: Incubus's laser rings cannot go through walls.
- Cricket's Body/The Parasite/Compound Fracture: Only stat effects, if any, apply.
- Cursed Eye: Overridden by Tech X.
- Dead Eye: Overridden by Tech X.
- Evil Eye: Overridden by Tech X.
- Euthanasia: No high-damage/instant death rings.
- Explosivo: Overridden by Tech X.
- Regular explosive tears may stick to enemies in contact with the laser.
- Fire Mind: Laser rings set enemies on fire and do not explode.
- Flat Stone: Overridden by Tech X.
- Fruit Cake: Only status effects granted by Fruit Cake work on the laser rings.
- Godhead: Damaging halo effect lost, behavior of rings identical to Spoon Bender synergy.
- Head of the Keeper: Overridden by Tech X.
- The tears turn into the Tech X tears, but they still retain the chance to drop money on hit. This chance procs with every tick of damage, rather than with the rings themselves.
- Holy Light: Overridden by Tech X.
- The lasers can create beams of light.
- Ipecac: Overridden by Tech X. Lose the damage bonus given by Ipecac on next room. Still poisons enemies like Ipecac does.
- +4 damage and poisons enemies.
- Ipecac is overridden, but the Tech X ring causes an explosion on every rock or enemy it passes through.
- Incubus: The rings fired by the Incubus have a fixed size; charging the ring will only increase the size of the player's own rings.
- Lachryphagy: Overridden by Tech X.
- Lead Pencil: Overridden by Tech X.
- Every 15th laser ring fired also shoots a cluster of tears.
- Little Horn: Overridden by Tech X.
- Occasionally fires a Little Horn laser ring.
- Loki's Horns: Overridden by Tech X.
- When Isaac shoots a laser ring it'll actually be 2 on top of each other, there's also a chance that Isaac will shoot 2 more laser rings backwards which will also be one on top of the other.
- The Ludovico Technique: Overridden by Tech X.
- A Lump of Coal: Damage and size of the ring increases the further away it is from the player, but is actually roughly 2/3rds of tear damage up close. It takes a few tiles of distance to reach normal damage and go above it, with the maximum being 1.5x at roughly a room's width away.
- Marked: Only stat changes apply, no targeting effect. [This is not the case anymore in Repentance; someone knowing please fix]
- The rings are now rapidly fired automatically at a smaller size.
- Mom's Eye: Overridden by Tech X.
- Isaac will now sometimes fire an additional ring from his back.
- My Reflection: Only stat changes apply.
- Neptunus: Overridden by Tech X.
- Proptosis: The ring's damage and size substantially increase, but decreases the further it travels.
- Pop!: Overridden by Tech X.
- Pupula Duplex: Overridden by Tech X.
- Rubber Cement: Overridden by Tech X.
- The rings now bounce off walls and have infinite range.
- Sulfuric Acid: Only damage up applies.
- Tammy's Head: Tammy's head fires regular tears.
- Technology Zero: Overridden by Tech X.
- Tiny Planet: Overridden by Tech X.
- Tough Love: No high damage rings.
- Tractor Beam: Tech X overrides the beam. Any previous effects rendered moot by Tractor Beam (e.g. The Wiz) will return.
- Trisagion: Overridden by Tech X.
- Terra: Tech X laser can destroy Obstacles. Also greatly increases laser knockback.
- Parasitoid: Overridden by Tech X.

Bug! | The black ring generated from the synergy of Dr. Fetus and Tech X behaves as a Maw of the Void ring and may cause black hearts to drop. |
