Unlock Method	Use Red Key (etc.) to open the hidden closet in Home as Azazel

Tainted Azazel is a character added in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance. He is the alternate version of Azazel but his horns are broken with blood leaking from the left stump. Tainted Azazel is unlocked by reaching Home and using either the Red Key or the Cracked Key to access a special room in one of the walls while playing as Azazel.

Tainted Azazel starts with 3 black hearts and has his short Brimstone replaced with a room-wide long version that is very thin, high pitched in sound and deals only x0.5 damage per tick. If the charge is released before full, it will activate Hemoptysis causing a short-range high-knockback attack that will paint the enemy faintly red and deal x1.5 damage. Enemies will also take damage when knocked into walls or obstacles, and deal damage when colliding with other enemies. Furthermore, enemies affected by Hemoptysis will take full damage from his Brimstone beam. Unlike Azazel, he cannot fly.

Notes

• Avoid Brimstone, as picking it up will not increase the width or damage of Tainted Azazel's beam.
  • However, it is worthwhile if two copies are present, as Tainted Azazel's damage will be increased along with the size of the beam.
  • Likewise, stacking two uses of Sulfur in the same room will also temporarily increase the damage and size of the beam.
• Picking up items like Haemolacria or Mom's Knife will change Brimstone to normal tears.
• Tech X overrides Hemoptysis and Brimstone, firing normal Technology rings.
• The laser ring created by The Ludovico Technique deals full damage without needing to first use Hemoptysis.
• In Co-Op, when Tainted Azazel dies, his ghost will maintain his Brimstone and Hemoptysis abilities. The first is weakened by the damage debuff applied to ghostly players, and the second is weakened as it has a very small size when dead.

Birthright effect

Doubles the size of Tainted Azazel's Hemoptysis attack, but doesn't increase damage.

Trivia

• The achievement for unlocking Tainted Azazel is "The Benighted", a possible title for the character.

Bugs

Bug!	When champion bosses are affected by the Hemoptysis effect, they just turn into their normal variation color.
