Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Wiki

(in Afterbirth † and Repentance)

Ghost Pepper is a passive item added in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth †.

Effects[]

  • (except in Repentance) Shooting tears sometimes spawns a fire similar to Red Candle, damaging enemies and destroying shots it comes into contact with.
  • (in Repentance) Shooting tears sometimes spawns a blue fire similar to The Candle, damaging enemies and destroying shots it comes into contact with. It lasts on the ground for a limited time and can pass through obstacles.
    • The fire deals 6× Isaac's damage at base, gradually fading to 3× damage with the size of the flame.
  • Creating farts through items/pills such as Re-Lax, The Poop, Butter Bean, and etc. causes fire to shoot out alongside the fart.
    • (except in Repentance) The only exception to this is the farts generated by Butt PennyButt Penny.

Notes[]

  • (except in Repentance) The chance of spawning fires is not affected by luck.
  • (in Repentance) The chance to shoot fires depends on the luck stat, and the formula used to determine the chance is:
    • At base luck (0), the chance is 8.33%, maxing out at 50% at 10 luck.
  • The fire can destroy Shopkeepers.
  • (except in Repentance) Enemies with fire variants will change to their flaming variants when they get hit with the flame.

Synergies[]

  • (in Repentance) Bird's Eye: Changes the activation rate to
    • At base luck (0), the chance is 12.5%, maxing out at 100% at 7 luck. Only one type of fire can be spawned at a time; however, each flame has an equal chance of being launched.
  • (except in Repentance) Brimstone: The flames can still shoot from Isaac while holding the fire button.
    • (in Repentance) Occasionally emits a flame while the beam is firing.
  • Butter Bean, Mega Bean, The Black Bean, Wait What?: Will spawn fires upon use/activation.
  • Dr. Fetus: Fires can be spawned while firing bombs.
  • Epic Fetus: Fires can be spawned while moving the crosshair.
  • (in Repentance) Farting Baby: The familiar has a chance to spawn a flame upon farting.
  • Ipecac: Fires are spawned as normal and can be hit by Ipecac tears, making this especially dangerous with a multi-shot ability.
  • (except in Repentance) Mom's Knife: The flames can still shoot from Isaac while holding the fire button.
    • (in Repentance) Occasionally spawns a fire when thrown.
  • (except in Repentance) Monstro's Lung: The flames can still be shot from Isaac while holding the fire button.
    • (in Repentance) Occasionally fires a barrage of flames along with the blast. The trajectory of the flames is unaffected, making them stack on top of each other.
  • The Poop: Fire will appear behind Isaac.
  • (in Repentance) Pupula Duplex: The fires gain a large size and duration increase.
  • Technology/Tech X: Will occasionally spawn a fire while firing lasers. The lasers will not douse the flames.
  • Trisagion: Will occasionally spawn a fire while firing beams. (except in Repentance) Fires' damage is not reduced.
  • (in Repentance) Urn of Souls: Causes the Urn to emit Ghost Pepper's flames in addition to its regular flames.

Interactions[]

  • 20/20/The Inner Eye/Mutant Spider: Will only spawn one fire.
  • (except in Repentance) Anti-Gravity: When holding down the fire button, when the fire spawns, it will be almost immediately put out by the clumps of tears.
  • Blood Clot: No effect.
  • Compound Fracture/Cricket's Body/The Parasite: Fires cannot split.
  • Ghost Pepper: No effect. Extra copies will not boost the chances of shooting out a fire like with Bird's Eye.
  • Homing tears: Flames will not be homing.
  • (in Repentance) IBS: Not recommended. IBS can trigger farts that automatically release a flame, which detonate the toxic cloud left behind and hurt Isaac, unless he has explosion immunity. While less of a risk than Bird's Eye, the flames spawned by Ghost Pepper can detonate stinky poops held by Isaac when IBS activates.
  • Contagion: Has a chance to make Isaac shoot a fire in a random direction after killing an enemy affected by Contagion.
  • Tear-copying Familiars like Incubus/(in Repentance) Lil ClotLil Clot/Evil Eye: Any fires that would be spawned from the familiars will be shot from Isaac instead.
  • (except in Repentance) Lachryphagy: Feeding tears will quickly douse the flames.
  • (in Repentance) Lilith: Spawns fire from her mouth.
  • (except in Repentance) The Ludovico Technique: Fires created from Ghost Pepper will destroy the tear and cause it to respawn on Isaac.
    • (in Repentance) Isaac now periodically creates fires that shoot towards the Ludovico Technique tear.
  • A Lump of Coal: No effect.
  • (except in Repentance) Pop!: Eyeball tears quickly douse flames.
  • (except in Repentance) Proptosis: Flames will not lose damage or shrink as they travel.
    • (in Repentance) Flame damage is tripled at base, follows Ghost Pepper's damage decay formula instead of the one from Proptosis.
  • (except in Repentance) Soy Milk: No effect on frequency or damage of flames.
  • Sprinkler: The sprinkler will not spawn flames.
  • Jupiter: No effect.

Trivia[]

  • "Ghost pepper" is an alternate name for the bhut jolokia, which is arguably one of the world's hottest peppers.
  • (in Repentance) After Repentance, this item is essentially a The Candle variant of Bird's Eye. It was likely reworked instead of the new item since the "ghost" thematic fits blue fires better.
