(in Repentance)

Eye of the Occult is a passive item added in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance.

Effects[ | ]

  • Firing in a direction causes all of Isaac's tears to move in that direction. Tears will stay in place if fire button is not being pressed.
    • The flight duration of tears is determined by the range stat.
  • +1 damage.
  • +2.0 range.
  • -0.16 shot speed.
  • This item belongs to the LeviathanLeviathan set. Collecting three items from this set will transform Isaac into Leviathan.

Notes[ | ]

  • Items which use charge mechanics (like Collectible Chocolate Milk iconChocolate Milk, Collectible Cursed Eye iconCursed Eye or Collectible Monstro's Lung iconMonstro's Lung) require precise input to be able to both charge the shot and then move the tears, making it significantly harder to control.
    • Beams and lasers like Collectible Brimstone iconBrimstone are unaffected by this.
  • MouseControl=1 enabled via the options.ini file does not allow the player to control the tears by mouse. Synergies which add a crosshair, however, will allow the tears to be controlled by mouse normally. (Further detail on valid synergies below)

Synergies[ | ]

Synergies which cause auto-fire can have the firing stopped by pressing the "drop" key or button. Pressing Fire will resume auto-firing.

  • Collectible Anti-Gravity iconAnti-Gravity + Collectible Proptosis iconProptosis: Tears travel and keep their initial size as long as the fire key is held, allowing for massive damage.
  • Collectible Bob's Rotten Head iconBob's Rotten Head: Isaac can control the mid-flight direction of the head, however its air-time is not increased.
  • Collectible Brimstone iconBrimstone/Collectible Technology iconTechnology: The laser becomes dark purple and automatically fires at a controllable crosshair. The crosshair behaves nearly identically to the one created by Collectible Marked iconMarked (including in its synergies and interactions with other items), but the laser itself always fires in the cardinal directions and bends toward the crosshair rather than directly targeting it.
    • Character Azazel iconAzazel: Like Brimstone, except that his short beam becomes a lasso. The loop starts where the beam would normally end and extends out to the cross-hair.
    • Brimstone/Technology + Collectible Incubus iconIncubus/Collectible Twisted Pair iconTwisted Pair: The familiars fire a straight laser towards the crosshair.
    • Brimstone/Technology + Collectible Marked iconMarked/Collectible Analog Stick iconAnalog Stick: The laser more closely follows the crosshair's position relative to Isaac. In Brimstone's case, moving the crosshair while the laser is firing makes the laser bend toward it rather than changing the firing angle of the laser itself.
    • Brimstone/Technology + Collectible Montezuma's Revenge iconMontezuma's Revenge: The brown beam has a similar interaction as Character Azazel iconAzazel's beam but cannot create the crosshair on its own. Corn shots are unaffected.
    • Brimstone/Technology + Collectible Revelation iconRevelation/Collectible Tech.5 iconTech.5/Collectible Technology 2 iconTechnology 2: The Revelation, Tech.5, and Technology 2 lasers are also affected by the crosshair but cannot create the crosshair on their own.
  • Collectible Cain's Other Eye iconCain's Other Eye/Collectible Sprinkler iconSprinkler: The familiar's and sprinkler's tears travel a very short distance in their original direction and can be controlled afterwards.
  • ConjoinedConjoined/Collectible Eye Sore iconEye Sore/Collectible Loki's Horns iconLoki's Horns/Collectible Mom's Eye iconMom's Eye/Collectible The Wiz iconThe Wiz: Extra tears fly in the same direction making it easier to hit every shot increasing damage substantially.
  • Collectible Isaac's Tears iconIsaac's Tears/Collectible Tammy's Head iconTammy's Head/Collectible Varicose Veins iconVaricose Veins: Generates a halo of tears that don't break their shape.
  • Collectible The Ludovico Technique iconThe Ludovico Technique: While holding a direction, the Ludovico tear will constantly shoot out controllable tears in random directions. The air time of these tears scales with the range stat.
  • Collectible Marked iconMarked: Turns the Marked crosshair purple. Tears target the crosshair's exact position. Upon reaching it, tears follow and hover on top of the crosshair for their remaining airtime.
  • Collectible Technology Zero iconTechnology Zero: Static beams persist between tears while moving.
  • Collectible Trisagion iconTrisagion: The Trisagion beams will fire in the direction of cross-hair and after the fire button is released they stay in place until they fade away.

Interactions[ | ]

  • Collectible Anti-Gravity iconAnti-Gravity: Overridden by Eye of the Occult. Tears up still applies.
  • Brain WormBrain Worm: Tears will veer slightly towards enemies when travelling by, but will quickly return to player control.
  • Collectible Chocolate Milk iconChocolate Milk: Not Recommended. Releasing the key to fire tears will stop the tear's movement, making it difficult to shoot enemies.
  • Collectible C Section iconC Section/Collectible Epic Fetus iconEpic Fetus/Collectible Mom's Knife iconMom's Knife: Overrides Eye of the Occult, stat effects still apply.
  • Collectible Cursed Eye iconCursed Eye: The tears stack on top of each other, and only move forward when holding a direction afterwards.
  • Collectible Dr. Fetus iconDr. Fetus: Bombs will now be controlled both in direction and range.
  • Collectible Evil Eye iconEvil Eye: Eyes cannot be controlled, but the tears they shoot can be.
  • Homing Tears: Tears still home towards enemies, but controlled movement is stronger than the homing effect.
  • Collectible Immaculate Heart iconImmaculate Heart: Extra tears are not affected by Eye of the Occult. Stat changes still apply.
  • Collectible The Ludovico Technique iconThe Ludovico Technique + Collectible Technology iconTechnology: Overrides Eye of the Occult, stat effects still apply.
  • Collectible My Reflection iconMy Reflection: Causes the pull to be lessened while actively controlling the tears. Pull returns to normal when not firing.
  • Collectible Pop! iconPop!: When being actively moved, tears can stay in the air until the fire button is let go.
  • Collectible Saturnus iconSaturnus: Extra tears are only affected by Eye of the Occult when holding fire while moving between rooms causing some of the orbiting tears' spacing and shot speed to be uneven. Stat changes still apply.
  • Collectible Sprinkler iconSprinkler: Sprinkler's tears travel a very short distance in their original direction and can be controlled afterwards.
  • Collectible Tech X iconTech X: Overrides Eye of the Occult; however, the shot speed down is still beneficial for Tech X.
  • Collectible Tiny Planet iconTiny Planet: Not Recommended. The tears will stop moving when not shooting in the direction of their orbit, making it nearly impossible to control where they go.
  • Collectible Tractor Beam iconTractor Beam: Tears will only move forward while being fired, but control is otherwise overridden.

Bugs[ | ]

Bug Bug! After the first Collectible Brimstone iconBrimstone shot, the Collectible Twisted Pair iconTwisted Pair familiars will be unable to fire until Isaac moves the crosshair and even then they will often only fire once or not at all. Collectible Chocolate Milk iconChocolate Milk fixes this.
