(in Afterbirth † and Repentance)

Dim Bulb is a trinket added in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth †.

Effects

  • Increases all stats while Isaac's active item is completely uncharged:
    • +0.50 speed.
    • +1.50 range.
    • (except in Repentance) +0.40 tears.
    • (in Repentance) +0.50 tears.
    • +0.30 shot speed.
    • +1.5 damage.
    • +2 luck.
  • Items that charge automatically will get only a tiny moment of benefit from the Dim Bulb before they gain more charge again.
  • (except in Repentance) If Isaac's active item has no charge bar and can used anytime, like Collectible How to Jump iconHow to Jump, Dim Bulb's effects will be permanent.

Notes

  • Dim Bulb is more than twice as powerful as Vibrant BulbVibrant Bulb; however, its effects are active less frequently.
    • However, 1 room charge items can be used at the start of each room to effectively get the Dim Bulb's effects constantly.
  • Dim Bulb has no effect when no active item is held.
  • If the player has 2 items (via Collectible Schoolbag iconSchoolbag), only 1 of them needs to be empty to receive the benefits.
    • This appears to have been patched out on PC. (except in Repentance) However, if one of your two active items has no charge bar (e.g. Collectible Remote Detonator iconRemote Detonator), you can swap to it after using the charged item to preserve the Bulb's effect.
  • (in Repentance) Dim Bulb produces no effect with active items in consumable slots, e.g. Character Tainted Apollyon iconTainted Apollyon's Collectible Abyss iconAbyss or Character Tainted Bethany iconTainted Bethany's Collectible Lemegeton iconLemegeton.
  • (in Repentance) The effect remains active with Character Bethany iconBethany's soul charges and Character Tainted Bethany iconTainted Bethany's blood charges.
    • If the active item is fully charged only with soul/blood charges and no regular charges, Dim Bulb and Vibrant Bulb can be both active at the same time if Isaac holds both of the trinkets.
  • When the active item is partially charged by (in Repentance)Collectible 4.5 Volt icon4.5 Volt, the Dim Bulb will be active as long as the active item has less than one bar of charge.
  • If the player has gotten 9 Volt, Dim Bulb will be essentially useless due to 9 Volt always giving the active item 1 charge on use, unless it is a 1 room charge.
