The Chaos Card is a special card.

Effects[ | ]

  • Upon activation, Isaac throws the card in front of himself.
    • The card is thrown in the direction Isaac's body is facing, meaning the card will be thrown in the direction Isaac is moving. If he is stationary, it will be thrown in the last direction that Isaac moved.
  • The thrown card kills anything in its path (including end-game bosses like Boss ??? ingame??? and otherwise indestructible entities like Stone GrimaceStone Grimaces and Wall HuggerWall Huggers) and gets stuck in the ground/wall after being thrown.
  • The card can open doors as if a BombBomb had exploded them, although it cannot open any locked doors or open the big door in the starting room of Dark RoomDark Room and ChestChest.
  • The card can extinguish fires, break rocks, and open secret rooms.

Notes[ | ]

  • Using it on multi-phase bosses like Boss Isaac ingameIsaac, Boss ??? ingame??? and Boss The Lamb ingameThe Lamb will instantly end the boss fight.
    • Using it on Boss Satan ingameSatan during his first form will end the fight, despite him having multiple forms and health bars. Using it on Boss The Fallen ingameThe Fallen instead of Satan himself will not end the fight.
      • However, using it on Mega Satan Head ingameMega Satan will only skip one phase.
    • (except in Rebirth) It will only kill one phase of Boss Hush ingameHush (except in Repentance) unless Isaac throws it from the bottom side, such that after killing the first phase, the card can still catch up with Hush's true form as he pops out at the top of the room. However, this method can fail depending on the timing and the position of the first phase.
    • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance) It will only kill one phase of Boss Ultra Greed ingameUltra Greed in Greedier mode.
    • (in Repentance) It will only kill one phase of Boss Mother secondphase ingameMother and Boss Dogma ingameDogma.
  • To aim the card correctly, make sure to move/shoot in the direction that it needs to be thrown.
  • Does not kill BeggarBeggars or ShopkeeperShopkeepers.
  • Can kill normally indestructible enemies like the Masks of Mask HeartMask + Hearts (though this will not kill the heart), HostHosts while they're invulnerable, the little chubs in ChubberChubbers, and Death's HeadDeath's Heads. It can also be used to kill things typically not considered alive like Wall HuggerWall Huggers and Stone GrimaceStone Grimaces.
  • If used on Boss Pin ingamePin or (except in Rebirth) Boss The Frail ingameThe Frail segments can be cut off causing both bosses to lose length like Boss Larry Jr. ingameLarry Jr..
  • Using it on an Angel Statue will reveal an Angel and kill them instantly.
  • (in Repentance) Boss Great Gideon ingameGreat Gideon has a special death animation if killed using it, which also reveals a Crawl SpaceCrawl Space under him containing several Chests and items.
  • (in Repentance) Mother's ShadowMother's Shadow cannot be killed with Chaos Card, though it is normally impossible to get one in the abandoned area of MinesMines/ AshpitAshpit II.
  • (in Repentance) Character Tainted Forgotten iconTainted Forgotten does not throw the card in the direction that Character Tainted Soul iconTainted Soul is moving if Tainted Forgotten is held.

Synergies[ | ]

  • (in Afterbirth † and Repentance)Collectible Angelic Prism iconAngelic Prism: If the Chaos Card passes through the prism, it will replicate the Chaos Card four times each in their respective colors.
  • Collectible Blank Card iconBlank Card: Allows for an easy run by allowing almost unlimited usage of the card.
    • Items such as Collectible Habit iconHabit, Collectible 9 Volt icon9 Volt, and (except in Rebirth)Collectible Charged Baby iconCharged Baby give more opportunities to use the card since all these items decrease the charge time of Blank Card.
    • Collectible The Battery iconThe Battery allows Blank Card to be used twice in a room, allowing multi-phase bosses to be killed instantly.

Trivia[ | ]

  • The icon, name and functionality are all a reference to the Magic: The Gathering card Chaos Orb. This card is famous for its unusual effect: the card is flipped from a height of over one foot above the board and all cards it touches as it lands are destroyed.

Bugs[ | ]

Bug Bug! If used against Boss Scolex ingameScolex while he's jumping, Chaos Card will not instantly kill him and will instead cut off the bottom of his tail, dealing some damage. Although his weak point will no longer be visible, its hitbox will be and can still be damaged as normal.
