The Burning Basement is one of the environments in chapter 1 added in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth. The theme of the Burning Basement is fire, and most enemies are replaced with burning versions. There are relatively few flying or shooting enemies; most of the enemies are ground-based and rely on contact damage. (except in Repentance) Rocks have a chance to be replaced with Fire Places.

The Burning Basement's alternate floors are the BasementBasement and the CellarCellar.

(in Afterbirth † and Repentance) The Burning Basement is unlocked by defeating Boss Mom's Heart ingameMom's Heart 11 times.

(in Repentance) After A Secret Exit A Secret Exit is unlocked, a locked door similar to the one leading to a Treasure RoomTreasure Room will appear in this floor's Boss RoomBoss Room upon defeating the boss leading to DownpourDownpour / DrossDross. Like a Treasure Room, this door requires a key to be unlocked. Unlike Angel RoomAngel Room and Devil RoomDevil Rooms, this door never disappears.
